Jim Durkin – The Leadership Sessions

Radiance Media 1970s

Jim Durkin spent much time during the 1970s training young leaders, referred to as “elders”. These recordings, made at different times and locations, offer an insight into the way Jim Durkin saw leadership roles and functions within the Gospel Outreach ministry structure.

With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to see areas that Jim marginalised or failed to address at all. While listening to these recordings, it needs to be remembered that Gospel Outreach was a pioneer ministry and Durkin was actively training young people many of whom had emerged from the 1960s hippy counter-culture.

I believe that this library of audio recordings will be of immense value to researchers in years to come. Indeed, I hope to offer my own observations and critique of Jim Durkin’s ministry philosophy, and offer an examination of the subsequent fruit in the lives of those who underwent the rigours of “discipleship” within Gospel Outreach, particularly in the early days. As of April 2019, the messages on this page are the only the only digitally re-mastered ones available.  – John Ruffle, April 20, 2019.

I have grouped these three recordings as a set, even though they were never issued in this way originally. They all address leadership issues in one way or another, and also offer a less formal view of Jim’s interactions with his youthful and emerging leadership teams.
