Catina 12century codex

12th century codex of a catena. The biblical text is surrounded by the commentary on 4 margins.

St. THOMAS AQUINAS (1225-1274)

Aquinas’s monumentally important work incorporates excerpts from approximately 80 Greek and Latin Church Fathers and other commentators, and contains fragments of some writings that are now otherwise lost. Aquinas would have drawn on earlier works to compile this masterpiece, known as the ‘Catena Aurea’ (Golden Chain).

VATICAN II COUNCIL DOCUMENTS:

We are keen to present the entire 16 documents of Vatican II Council that took place in the 1960s. These documents are of great interest to the entire Church of Christ, and no advanced theological education is complete without consideration of the significance of them, fostering as they do important dialogue between Catholics, Protestants (including Pentecostal, ‘full gospel’, ‘born-again’ and ‘new church’ streams), the Eastern Orthodox and Messianic Jews.  Below are two of the most important Council documents, “Lumen Gentium – Dogmatic Constitution on the Church” (1964) and “Dei Verbum -Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation” (1965).

ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT:

By Charles & Frances Hunter as told by Roland Buck (1979). This highly inspirational book has a directness and simplicity that activates faith in those that read. It provoked much controversy at the time due to the numerous angelic visitations recounted in the book, yet in my view it remains within the bounds of Scripture. During the 1980s,  I bought dozens of copies of this book for my students when I was teaching Bible school in north London. Additionally, from a historical and theological point of view, this account is an important document within the tradition of the Charismatic Renewal movement of the 1960s and 1970s. – John Ruffle.

MESSAGE FROM BROTHER JOHN RUFFLE (curator):

I trust that the volumes so far are proving to be a blessing to those of you who may not have previously had access to all these volumes. Some titles are now being rated according to the difficulty of the text, (either due to the theology or the level of English),  as we consider the best way to present a category for those who are relatively new to the faith. We are also preparing a page of links to works that we are unable to directly offer on this website due to copyright restrictions. All sections of the Messiah’s bride, the Church, have wonderful heritage and colour to offer their separated brethren,  and the D. H. Ruffle Memorial Library is offered as one means to build bridges of understanding, care and compassion in the love of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen.
